When this golden retriever mix showed up at the animal shelter with a belly full of puppies, the staff members there were more than happy to accommodate her.
Rosie was taken in by the Neuse River Golden Retriever Rescue. Foster dog parents John and Katie Black were excited to temporarily parent the pregnant canine.
Expecting The Unexpected
The Blacks had a lot of experience with dogs. They had fostered at least 20 animals in the past, and they got to work preparing for delivery day. They were looking forward to snuggling with a few blonde fur balls.
That’s why they were shocked when Rosie gave birth to her four beautiful puppies.
Rosie’s puppies didn’t look anything like their mother. They were either black and white or brown and white, and they were spotted like little cows. The Blacks and their friends were completely surprised, but Rosie didn’t seem at all alarmed. The proud mother instinctually protected and took care of her funny-looking babies.
The Blacks aren’t sure what breed of dog the puppies’ father is, but they can almost guarantee that it was not a golden retriever. The family has given the pups names that would be perfectly suitable for cows.
Their names are Moo, Betsy, Clarabelle and Daisy.
John and Katie have been bombarded by requests for photos and videos of the puppies on social media. They’ve been great about posting photos of the pups and their proud mama. Once the dogs were old enough, they were put up for adoption along with Rosie. They have all found loving homes.
The Blacks have since learned that it’s not that rare for a mother to have puppies that look like they’re not part of the family. Pets4Homes reports that there are many genetic factors that can create variations even in dogs of the same breed. That explains how golden Rosie ended up with a litter of baby cows.
Have you ever seen a litter of puppies that looked nothing like their siblings or parents? We would love to hear about it!
