John Travolta has been a celebrity for decades since he rose to fame in the 1970s. Most people know him for his roles in many successful films, such as “Grease,” “Saturday Night Fever” and “Pulp Fiction.”
Travolta certainly didn’t start out with his multimillion-dollar fortune, as his family wasn’t wealthy. Born John Joseph Travolta in 1954, he was the youngest of six children who grew up in Englewood, New Jersey, with parents who were in the entertainment business, according to Biography.com.
The would-be actor decided early on that he, too, would become an entertainer, dropping out of high school at the age of 16 to pursue acting. Soon enough, he had landed his first role in an off-broadway production in 1972, only to join as a replacement for a cast member on a Broadway production of ” Grease.”
But it wasn’t until 1975 that Travolta really supercharged his career after landing his role as Vinnie Barbarino in “Welcome Back, Kotter.” The television show solidified the young actor’s place as a teenage heartthrob, and soon enough, the actor had no problem landing big parts in feature-length films, with appearances in horror films like “The Devil’s Rain” and “Carrie.”
After enjoying massive success as an actor, producer, singer and dancer, it’s safe to say that Travolta has amassed quite a fortune. Another arena where Travolta has succeeded is aviation. The actor famously holds a pilot license and even built his Florida home off an airfield so he could literally fly in and out of his residence.
In October 2022, Travolta gave the internet a tour of his newly-finished million-dollar Boeing Business Jet, giving everyone a glimpse of how his hard work has paid off and soared him to greater heights.

Travolta’s successful career has afforded him high-paying role after high-paying role, which has no doubt allowed him to accumulate quite a bit of wealth. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Travolta regularly earns upwards of $10 million for his performances. This lifestyle and success, however, did not unfold overnight. Travolta credits his success to his ability to be people other than himself.
But aside from his affinity for acting – Travolta has found a similar passion that he has been enamored with since he was a child – aviation.
Ever since he was a young boy, Travolta has always been a fan of airplanes, according to an Airport Journals profile on the actor. He would spend a lot of time staring at planes flying into the airport close to where he lived.
By the time Travolta celebrated his 22nd birthday, he had earned his own pilot’s license. Later on, he received his certification to fly different types and sizes of aircraft. Since the actor received his license, he has flown planes for over 5,000 hours. A lot of the money he has earned as an actor has gone to his enviable life as a pilot, settling his upkeep costs, travel expenses and the lessons he keeps getting to ensure his flying skills are up to date.
According to Cheat Sheet, Travolta has acquired the necessary licenses to fly 707 and 724 aircraft. Very recently, he earned his license to fly a 737 aircraft — one of his biggest preparations — so he could take his biggest investment yet for a joy ride up in the air – his own Boeing 737 aircraft, which was turned into a Boeing Bussiness Jet that he had specifically constructed to his liking way back in 2010.
In an Instagram post that Travolta shared in April 2022, he took his 4.6 million Instagram followers on a virtual trip from Georgia to his home as he flew his Boeing Business Jet.
Travolta’s home is located in Ocala, Florida, more than an hour outside of Orlando. The house is situated in a residential airpark known as the Jumbolair Aviation Estates. The 550-acre airport backyard behind Travolta’s home was specifically built for people looking to fly in and out of their homes.
Per the Australian “Today” show, Travolta said: “I was five years old when I fell in love with aviation. It’s in my blood. You can be the ultimate eccentric, like I am, and bring in Boeing 707, but you can also bring in any corporate jet or airliner.”
According to Yahoo! Movies, Travolta’s own Boeing Business Jet is equipped with state-of-the-art luxurious living quarters. Originally, the business jet could house 150 passengers all at the same time, but Travolta’s newly-decked big boy can seat only 15 people luxuriously. Guests can take a bath, watch a movie, and even sleep on a queen-size bed a thousand miles up in the air.
In another virtual tour of his aircraft posted on Boeing Airlines’ Twitter account, Travolta described the aircraft as having a “large apartment” inside and can go 13 hours non-stop. The sleek furnishings of the reclining chairs and seats are reminiscent of a modern Manhattan duplex on air, all glammed up with an entertainment system where passengers can boogie with Travolta all night long.
So if Travolta is craving authentic Italian pizza, he could hop in his stylish aircraft sitting in his backyard and fly straight to Naples, Italy, to get some.
For someone who has been in the flight deck as long as he has been on the silver screen, #JohnTravolta knows beautiful planes.
