‘We’ll be deported since we haven’t paid our rent in months.’

With just seven days’ notice to vacate their rental property, Amy and Joshua, a young couple in their twenties with three children and one on the way, are in danger of becoming homeless.

Because they are dependent on government aid, they have been unable to make their rental payments on time.

They are still deciding where they will live after their current place is no longer an option because their eviction is scheduled to occur soon.

Amy and her partner were in dire need of housing aid, but their families were unable to provide it. An uncle who lived in Somerset was the sole relative who made an effort to assist.

Conversely, the housing organization threatened to evict them if they declined an offer that would have divided their family.

With no other options, the two felt helpless and afraid.

It is challenging to decide what actions to take because Joshua and his family need to hear from Barnsley Council consistently.

Joshua’s name was not on the tenancy agreement, despite the fact that he and Victoria Robertshaw have resided in the same home for an unlimited period of time. There was only Victoria’s name. She passed away from COVID-19 in August 2020 at the age of 45.

The decisions made by the council put Joshua and his family in a difficult predicament. Joshua is obstinate since their other options spare him from having to split up his family.

An outright possession order, issued by the judge, required the occupants of a specific home to vacate within seven days.

A spokesman for Sanctuary Housing stated that although it took some time, the decision was made because there had been a prolonged period of nonpayment of rent.

For months, the tenants had occupied the property without making rent payments. Despite all attempts to handle the matter outside of court, the problem is still unsolved.

In order to give the residents time to make way for a family on Barnsley’s waiting list, Barnsley Council has been collaborating with the relevant parties to find a new home for the residents as quickly as feasible.

In discussing it, Jenny Platts, the Barnsley counselor assigned to the case, mentioned that the couple had received guidance and assistance on potential solutions from the housing department.

They are also making every effort to facilitate a speedy search for hotels that meet your needs.
